Well, ya'll we did it! Race number 14 of the SoCalCross Prestige Series presented by Shimano is complete!  San Diego came to represent with the highest turnout ever for cyclocross at Balboa Park!  Well over 200 riders completed the one-lap finish circuit a la Paris Roubaix in the San Diego Velodrome but not before charging out for a 2+mile circuit around the park.  Adams Avenue Bicycles hosted the day's event cooking up burgers, hotdogs, and serving "refreshments" to anyone hungry that day.  Together the AA Team created a super fun course including the "Spiral of Death", a natural log dismount, a steep dirt run up, a roller-coaster "trail" section embedded with smooth "cobbles", and a long fire road stretch made for an all-around challenging course!

The Juniors started the day with a full group (22)... including Under 10 youth, 10-14 and 15-18 boys and girls.  Today the Junior boys 10-14 race out numbered the elite men's field.  Our Bear Valley Bikes Williams family represented in many of the podiums including our official podium gnomes!!!  Casey Williams in second in the 15-18 boys, Ellie Williams in 3rd in the 10-14 girls and Cameron Williams taking first in the 10-14 boys.... great job!!!

The day also awarded the Best of San Diego Series - recognizing racers in each category with the most points at the three San Diego County races this season.  The mission of the series is to help grow the sport of cyclocross within each region.  Since so many people are new to the sport, it made so much sense to have a local series so racers could compete locally first to see if they even like the sport!  San Diego's own and leading in the Overall Best Team competition of the Prestige Series so far, Celo Pacific taking home many of the "coveted"awards!  Here are your Best of San Diego - 3 races: Rasers and Chasers/Anza, Storm the Beach/Oceanside and Adams Avenue/San Diego:

Back to the day's race results... complete race results are posted below thanks to Chris "Mafia" Bassett!  Our elite winners:  Men=Prenzlow, need we say more?  Women=Pua Sawicki Team MATA shot out like a rocket to dominate the elite women's field on her beloved Ellsworth! And our kids race showcased the next generation of crossers or trackies as they raced one lap around the San Diego velodrome.  Our final finisher did the backwards maneuver wheelie finish while waving to the crowd! (a little help from Dad, of course!)

Next up, National CX Championships December 10-13th with about 40+ riders from Southern California chasing the stars and stripes in Bend with almost 2,000 other cross-crazed peeps from across the nation!  Racing begins Thursday, with championship events beginning on Friday! 

And finally, hope you don't miss the Prestige Series finale... Santa Cross on Sunday, 12/20 scheduled for Pierce College in Woodland Hills.  If rain is in the forecast by 12/14, we will move the event to Hansen Dam Park - Los Angeles... home of Dam Cross!  Wet = less bumpy and JL promises an easier course than the UCI design!  Overall Series Champion jerseys awarded.  Podium awards to top 3 in each category.  Bonus cash to our top 3 overall series elite men/women.  Podium for our GoGreenRacer competion, SoCalCross Mosher competition and the Flickr Photo of the Week contest.  We'll be awarding our Bailey O'Brien CX frame, an Alpha Q carbon fork, Shimano XTR pedals, Pro Series handlebars, seatposts, and more!

For those who have just gotten into it, we have more fun coming in January and the official end to the cyclocross season and our real winter... SoCalCross Fever Series:  1/3 - Redlands or Los Angeles, 1/10 - Pelona Vista Park in Palmdale... look for snow in the forecast! Then we finish out the 2009-10 season and Cross Fever Series on 1/17 with Dam Cross at Hansen Dam Park. 

Finally if the Langins will have us, we will head to Newbury Park/Thousand Oaks for the Super-Prestigious Ride and World Championship BBQ Par-tay (a tamed version of the Langtown Exgravaganza)... large screen viewing of the cyclocross world championships too!  And did I say beer?
