Dot's Short Report... SCPS #13: Gene Galinedo Memorial Turkey Trot Cross - Sunday, 11/29

What an amazing day of racing to end the month of November and the SoCalCross classics... dirt masks on racers faces and simples pleasures like hotdogs and waffles made the day for many who attended and the highest attendance ever for the 6th Annual Gene Galindo Memorial Turkey Trot Cross Sunday!

Racers celebrated the holiday weekend coming as far away as Portland and our friends in Vegas.  Elite riders like Brian Lopes and Pua Sawicki came to play.  And still after 13 races in the books, new riders tested out the sport for the first time!  My new favorite phrase, "rockin' the one-cog" singlespeeders came enforce to represent!  Our women did not disappoint with our women's masters 35+ field just about matching the 45+ men's participation and also our largest wave of the day:  45 - 45+ and 55+ masters men were followed by 41 - 35+ and CX 3/4 women!!!

Pasadena Athletic Association hosted the day for the 6th year.. thanks to everyone for making this event a success... from the AM coffee, battling the registration lines, setting up the 1.89 mile course by design master JL Livesay - complete with hundreds of stakes and over 40,000 feet of caution tape in less than 3 hours!  Banners were strung by Team SoCalCross and we were good to go!

35 juniors and youth lead the way charging down (up) the start straignt, up and over the sand-bag curb, then back into the Verdugo Park mulchy forest, over the ramp covered "stream" uphill and back down, around and back to the main expo zone and Shimano barriers (uphill making them about 20 inches high!!!) then straight into the sandpits before more mulching turns into the ride/run up around the hill and down into the Shimano/Planet Bike stairway and into the soft off-camber hairpin turn taking you back to the final grass power finale and sprint to finish lap one!

Whew!  Now I'm tired all over again!  Stay tuned for complete results from our results guru, Chris "mafia" Bassett!  Remember, your 10 best scores count for your overall series finish and the top 3 podium positions at the series finale on 12.20.  One more chance for points next week at Balboa Park & Velodrome in San Diego as Adams Avenue joins the Prestige Series for race #14 of 15!  Pre-register by Thurs at 9PM and save $$$!
