LONG BEACH CYCLOCROSS FESTIVAL SHORT REPORT:

Stop number six of the Southern California Prestige Series of Cyclocross presented by Shimano made its Series debut Sunday 10/18 in the City of Long Beach and El Dorado Park.  The city's mega regional park is the new home to the sport of cyclocross.  The course was a mix of fast pavement and quick mulch garden became a bumpy gofer hillside for a heart jumpin' stairs section, taking riders flying and bumping back down to the park then leading riders into the Fluid Sandpit then into a laberynth of tight twisting turns before heading back for another lap of fun through the pavement straight-away.  The course design was well-received by many of the racers with the great design collaboration by Velo Allegro, Lightning Velo, and SoCalCross' designers'  Jonathan Livesay and Jeff Herring, brought their experience continuing their magic to build a top caliber-UCI level course once again for the Prestige Series.

The day also brought in many racers still new to 'cross including the large numbers of women and juniors as well as some notables in the elite men's field including Long Beach Cycling Ambassador, Tony Cruz.  MTB World Champion, Sid Taberlay and SoCalCross' elite, Brent Prenzlow, U23 riders Chance Noble and Morgan Ryan, the Gritters brothers Brandon and Kyle, and the Bailey Bikes crew - Johnx2 and Donny too!  just to name a few.  Prenzlow won the day in dominant fashion and with it, so far stamping his authority on 'cross so far this season.

The elite women continues to be dominated by So Cal's own elite ladies, won on the day by Lana Atchley, who passed Kendall Ryan after a crash-mishap on the final lap.  Beatriz Rodgriguez is returning to her roots and racing cross this "off-season" rounding out the top 3.
